Lyrics

Cowboys Never Run
Music & Lyrics By: Donald Stephan Jones

His cowboy hat was over one eye
I thought he was sleeping
So I tried to sneak by
He said son I can hear the quiet in your heart
There must be something wrong today
I said I lost my job, I lost my house, they took my car
And took my pride
Mary Lou’s going to have our baby soon
I just want to turn and run

He Said, don’t you know that,
Cowboys, don’t give up
They get up and ride again
Cowboys, stand tall
They don’t hide
Until its safe outside
Sometimes Cowboys cry
But Cowboy’s never run

Twenty years went by in the blink of any eye
Everything seemed to work out alright
Our little boy grew up to become a young man
Mary Lou’s happy with her new kitchen

Instrumental

Then one day there was a solider outside
He said I’m sorry to bring you this news
Your son was wounded by the Taliban
Defending the children in a worn down school
And through it all he stood his ground
Fought to the end
And he never ran
And our country owes a debt to him
This Purple Heart is to honor your son

I said, don’t you know that,
Cowboys, don’t give up
They get up and ride again
Cowboys, stand tall
They don’t hide
Until its safe outside
Sometimes Cowboy’s cry
But cowboy’s never run
