Got George Jones In His Veins
Music & Lyrics By: Donald Stephan Jones
July 19, 2011

He comes home from work, to a two room condo
It looks like every other building insight
Standing by the window, he sees his neighbor’s window
And hears the cars on the freeway below
The traffic has stopped, the land of grid-lock, a ten mile ride is a two hour line

And he wonders why, he’s living this cursed life
Brown skies, and locks on every door
He’s a square peg, in this valley hole
Looking for someplace, his heart can call home

And, He’s just a country boy, born in LA
Never been kissed by a country girl
And he’s just a country boy, raised in LA
Got George Jones running through his veins

Instrumental

On a little TV, he watches John Wayne
He’s the hero he wished he could be
But he can’t leave a job, that pays the rent
Can’t buy dreams with a hole in your pocket
So he saves his money, in an old cookie jar, going to buy an old Tennessee farm

And he wonders why, he’s living this cursed life
Brown skies, and locks on every door
He’s a square peg, in this valley hole
Looking for his heart, in a Tennessee soul

And, He’s just a country boy, born in LA
Never been kissed by a country girl
And he’s just a country boy, raised in LA
Got George Jones running through his veins
